Worship Ministries

St. Martin’s offers several opportunities to serve and be served through our worship ministries.

If you would like to know more about any of these ministries or volunteer to serve, please contact our church office.

Acolytes

Acolytes carry the cross at the beginning and the end of worship services, symbolizing that Christ is the one we follow. Acolytes also assist the priest during the communion. We welcome children who are old enough to serve as an acolyte, as well as adults.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is a very dedicated group of women and men who set up the worship space for weekly services. They also set up for weddings, funerals, baptisms, and special occasions.

Broadcast Ministry

The St. Martin’s Broadcast Ministry was formed in 2020 during the COVID-19 shutdown to spread the Holy Word to all parishioners (both active and potential future members). We continue to make improvements to ensure that St. Martin’s congregants receive the best online worship service possible.

Chalice Bearers

Chalice bearers offer the cup of wine, symbolizing Christ’s blood, during the Holy Eucharist. Because they deal directly with the sacrament, chalice bearers are licensed by the Diocese of Missouri. All that is required to be licensed is a short training by the priest.

Eucharistic Visitors

Our Eucharistic Visitors are members of the parish who take Holy Communion to people who are unable to attend church due to illness or hospitalization. We also take Communion to people living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Monday Bible Study

Journey with us as we ask questions, embrace doubts, and listen to each other speak through the spirit. We gather on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. to read and discuss the upcoming Sunday’s lectionary reading or other parts of Scripture. We conclude our session with Holy Eucharist beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Music Ministry

Music plays an important role in our worship services at St. Martin’s. You’re invited to be part of (or simply enjoy) our St. Martin’s Choir. The choir rehearses weekly and sings during the 10:30 a.m. service each Sunday from September through May. Other musical offerings include the St. Martin’s Handbell Choir, our Children’s Chapel Choir, and guest musicians.

Readers

The Old and New Testament lessons, the Psalm, and the Prayers of the People are led by readers each Sunday.

Children’s Chapel

Children’s Chapel meets during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, from September through May. Children are escorted from the sanctuary for a program that includes prayers, lessons, snacks, and crafts. We also incorporate children’s songs and handbells. The children rejoin their families in the main worship space for communion. We also sponsor special family events and a summer Vacation Bible School.

Sunday Compline

You’re invited to join us on Facebook on Sunday evenings for peaceful prayers, psalms, and collects before bedtime and the start of a new week. Compline is livestreamed on Facebook, September through May.

Ushers

Instrumental in worship, the ushers hand out bulletins, shepherd the congregation toward the altar rail during communion, process with the gifts of bread, wine and the offering, and ensure the smooth flow of people during the service.
