Meet Your Vestry: John Alden

Hello and Good Morning St. Martin’s faithful!

It’s your plucky day as this week is my turn in the Vestry Spotlight to share with you my faith, family and Vestry duties backgrounds.

Baptized in 1961 by my great grandfather the Rt. Rev. Edwin J. Randall, the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago (hence my middle name), I began my journey in the Episcopal faith. Growing up, my now late uncle, was an Episcopal minister (high church) serving as the Rector to various congregations throughout the greater Chicago area. Spending holidays and summer vacations with my Uncle “The Father” in his collar was the norm.

I was confirmed at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ladue where both of my parents had served on the Vestry in the 1970’s. A resident of Ballwin, I’ve been a longtime visitor of St. Martin’s for 10+ years and an active member of my church home now for 3 years.

My four children are now all young adults in their 20’s. Three boys and a girl, with 3 of the 4 now pursuing graduate degrees respectively in Engineering, Medicine and Law. Recently my wife Katharine and I celebrated our 17th anniversary. A second marriage for each of us, we were wed at St. Peter’s.

I am privileged to have the time and faith to serve the needs of this congregation.

You can find me at the 8:00 Rite 1 service, where I frequently serve Usher duties as well.

As a long time Business Development executive/Entrepreneur in the technology industry, I have offered you, the congregation and the Vestry, a modern stance of growth with a strong respect for history and tradition.

With 2019 being the final trimester of my Vestry service, I endeavor to continue our transformation to be a spiritually unified and fiscally healthy church.
