Friday Vigil at Christ Church Cathedral for the Victims of Gun Violence

This Friday, December 14, will mark six years since the horrific mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut that took the lives of twenty first graders and six educators, as well as the murderer’s mother and the murderer himself. In the six ensuing years, there have been nearly 2000 more mass shootings in the US.

Christ Church Cathedral will hold a Vigil Prayer for victims of gun violence this Friday at 12:10 pm. Cathedral Dean Kathie Adams-Shepherd was rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, and one of her parishioners was one of the victims.  The effects of this horrific tragedy continue to reverberate among the families and friends of the victims, students, clergy, and first responders in the area around Newtown.

The prayer service will last about 30 minutes. Please consider joining Mother Leslie at the Prayer Vigil, or participating in noonday prayer, dedicated to eliminating the scourge of gun violence in our society, wherever you are if you are unable to attend.
