Lectio Divina or “divine reading” is an ancient spiritual practice. In daily prayer with scripture, monks noticed that at times individual words, phrases, or verses seemed to leap off of the page with a special personal importance. During a facilitated group Lectio Divina, the practitioners listen to a short passage of scripture with the “ear of the heart,” as if he or she is in conversation with God, and God is suggesting the topics for discussion. The method of Lectio Divina includes moments of reading, reflection, responding to and resting in the Word of God with the aim of nourishing and deepening one’s relationship with the Divine. No experience necessary!
