The Power of a Shower and Clean Clothes

Ever had a day when all you wanted was to get in a warm shower and rid yourself of grit and grime? And when you get out, you’ll put on fresh clothes and feel human again, right?

That’s what the Cathedral would like to offer to unhoused neighbors.

The old swimming pool shower area in the basement has been re-plumbed and is in need of a crew (or two) of willing workers and some serious elbow grease to make it functional and inviting. There are many opportunities to help get this outreach mission going:

  • Deep cleaning in the shower area
  • Painting
  • Deep cleaning the gym bleacher area for clothing dispensing space
  • Sorting and sizing clothing*
  • Donations of boxes for organizing clothing by size*

*Please note that additional clothing donations are not being accepted at this time until the space is organized and functional.

Please contact Annette Carr, Cathedral administrator, with your availability and tasks you can do, and with any questions. Call her at 314-255-1641 or email her.

As we are called to care for those in need here in our midst, what can you do and how will you work to make a simple shower and a change of clothes a reality?
