St. Martin’s offers wonderful, life-giving, and fun spiritual growth opportunities for our children. We want to engender a culture within our children’s ministries that cuts against the grain of our broader culture by offering formation that is more interested in human development than product development.
There can often be so much pressure in our suburban context to provide the “best start” for our children, and while we agree wholeheartedly, we feel that the moral and ethical formation of our children must be the cornerstone of their development. Our method in achieving that aim is never to try to impose morals and ethics, but to explore goodness, kindness and love through scripture, tradition and reason at an age appropriate level.
The foundation of Christian formation at St. Martin’s is found in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Our nursery is available for infants through 4-year old toddlers every Sunday. It is located in Lower Laird, down the stairs in the corridor which leads from the main lobby. The nursery is staffed with caregivers on Sunday mornings 9:45 – 11:30 am. The nursery is also opened for special occasions by appointment.
Children in Worship Space
We recognize that with crunched and busy schedules many families only have one day in the week to spend a lot of time together and that sending a child to the nursery during worship curtails more of that time. We have created a space for families with toddlers and infants at the front of the church for those who prefer to stay together during worship. There are books and rocking chairs and a clear view of everything that will happen during the service. We believe that children who can see what is happening in worship will be more engaged in the worship experience. However, you are also always free to sit anywhere that you are most comfortable.
Story Time meets on Monday mornings during the school year from 10:00 – 11:00 am. This special ministry is for all children ages one year and up and their caregivers. We have moms that bring their little ones but we also have nannies, Dads, and grandparents. Each week we have a special theme and stories, music, drama and an art activity are coordinated around it. We also allow little ones time to play in our beautiful new nursery. There is no cost to participate in this ministry and it is a fun time for all!
Spark! (Children’s Worship and Sunday School)
Children between the ages of 4 and 12 are invited to participate in Spark! every Sunday morning during the 10:15 am worship service. Spark! combines traditional Sunday School curriculum from Sparkhouse Media with our successful Children’s Worship program. It offers a fun, educational and worship-filled program. Children will meet the Spark! adult leader at the entrance to the 10:15 am service, then depart for Spark! as a group. They will return to the worship service and their families immediately following the announcements.
Why should teenagers have all the fun? The 7-11 Club is a youth group for elementary-aged children between the ages of 7 and 11. We meet the last Friday of every month from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. There are a multitude of different kinds of activities that are offered from month to month. They are always fun!! This group also functions as a great Parents’ Night Out. So if you want a Friday night where you can do your own thing and know that your child is safe – and learning about Christian Fellowship – your family will love the 7-11 Club.
7-11 Club Children’s Music Group
The 7-11 Club Children’s Music Group is made up of children aged 7 through 11 who sing or play a musical instrument. They rehearse at the beginning of the regular 7-11 Club meeting, then they share their music during the 10:15 am Sunday Eucharist several times during the year.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer St. Martin’s offers a week-long half-day Vacation Bible School to all children ages 4-12 within our community. Each year is a different theme, but teaches the lessons of the Bible and supports these lessons with lots of fun, interactive and engaging activities along the way.
